Asda teamed up with Totsdays recently to find two local mums prepared to test out their Asda Price Guarantee (known as the APG).

What is the APG?  Asda claims if they are not 10% cheaper on your comparable grocery shopping they will give you the difference.

To be reviewers for Totsdays was an attractive offer as both mums would be given £100 vouchers each to spend on whatever they wished in the Chelmer Village Asda store. In return all they needed to do was write a review of their experience.

Therefore I ran a draw for applicants and two were selected at random.

Here is a picture of the lucky ladies receiving their vouchers for their shopping, presented by myself and Jim Clarke, Deputy Manager.

But less from me and over to Anne Horemans & Jenny Lindop.  How did they rate the APG? And does it really do what it says on the tin?  Read their reviews below!

A big thank you to Chelmer Village Asda Store for their kind hospitality.

Asda Price Guarantee – My Experience

It had been a while since I’d entered the Totsdays’ competition on the spur of the moment one afternoon, so I was very surprised & pleased to get an e-mail from Helen at Totsdays congratulating me on being one of the 2 winners of the Asda Price Guarantee promotion.

To be honest, I couldn’t even remember what the prize was, so I was very excited to learn that I would be receiving a £100 gift voucher to spend in the store!

I met up with Helen & Jenny the other winner at Asda on Monday 14th November & after a quick chat with the Deputy Store Manager, we were free to head off & do our shopping. Once finished we met up again, so that he could hand over the vouchers & we could pay for & take home our lovely shopping.

Back home, it was time to check online to see how my shopping costs compared with those at the other major supermarkets – Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons & Waitrose,

You just have to wait til after 6am the next day after you have shopped & then go to the website (www.asdapriceguarantee.co.uk) and follow the instructions shown. All the information required is easily found on the till receipt & within seconds it brings up details of how much the same shopping would cost at the other supermarkets. If the prices show that your shop was not at least 10% cheaper at Asda, then they will refund the difference to you.

In my case, my shopping would actually have been £1.36 cheaper at Tesco, so I was then able to print off a voucher for this amount to spend on my next shop at Asda.

It couldn’t have been easier! Thanks Asda!

I'm not a regular Asda shopper but was impressed with the cleanliness and stock levels in the store when I went on Monday 14th November.  Having completed my weekly shop (I spent just over £100) I was keen to check out their price guarantee.  I went to their website where I realised I couldn't do it until after 6am the next day.  So the following day I tried again.  There are 6 bits of info on the receipt that you have to put in (e.g. store number, time) but it shows you clearly where on the receipt they are so it's easy to find them and put them in.  The results are available straight away, giving a breakdown of how much more or less the same trolley full would cost in the other supermarkets.  Mine came up as follows:

   Tesco    Sainsbury's    Morrison's  Waitrose
+£12.37 +£16.30 +£14.56 +£17.64

You can click on each of the supermarkets to see a detailed breakdown of how the prices compare.

So, as they promised, my shopping was more than 10% cheaper than elsewhere.  It is worth noting though that each individual item is not 10% cheaper.  I naturally picked up some things which were on special offer, as no doubt I would have done if I'd been in another supermarket.  From the results it is clear that the same items weren't on offer in the other supermarkets - so in all likelihood had I shopped elsewhere I would have chosen a different brand that perhaps was on offer and ended up with a different trolley of shopping.

Overall it is reassuring to know that I didn't overpay for my shopping and for the sake of a minute to input the info it's definitely worth doing!
